The exhibition draws on a concept by sociologist Norbert Elias to probe the many uncertainties that run through painting, both in its practice and reception.

[Is painting a space of freedom? Does spontaneity exist in painting? What kind of arrangement does our mind make with painting? Am I a solitary eye or part of a timeless crowd? How to kill the background? How to read between the lines? What is handwriting?]

This anxious, self-reflective state of painting finds its own echo in the highly provisional setting of an apartment in the middle of a move.
